At Zirnhelt Timber Frames sustainable building is considered a profession. We are always interested in meeting people who have decided to make a career in sustainable building and are open to exploring relationships with suppliers of sustainable building products (e.g. solar, insulation, paints & stains).

We will likely be looking for skilled finishing carpenters for the 2010 building season - check back in March for postings or send us a resume to keep on file.

Positions: Timber frame designer/project manager specializing in sustainable building systems (full-time)

Zirnhelt Timber Frames Ltd. is a growing hand crafted timber frame company focused on sustainable design and construction.  We currently employing 12 people full-time and strive to foster a unique work environment where collaboration and idea sharing are strongly promoted.

Location:                    Near Williams Lake BC
Start date:                  Flexible (winter/spring 2010)
Remuneration:          Commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:
Work directly with clients and our team to design and construct timber homes and other structures from start to finish, including:

  • Design
  • 3D conceptual renderings
  • Development Permit Submissions
  • Building Permit Submissions
  • Architectural working drawings
  • Detailed timber frame shop drawings
  • Other shop drawings as required for prefabrication
  • Materials procurement (including sourcing and integrating green building products)
  • Cost estimating and analysis
  • Close coordination with team members both in the shop and at building sites
  • Design prefabricated roof and wall systems
  • Take part in frame raising and other construction activities as needed
  • Work with other designs/designers and engineers to incorporate heavy timber construction

Essential qualifications

  • Design diploma or degree in architecture
  • Experience in designing for prefabrication
  • Experience and interest in timber design and green building products
  • Demonstrated project management ability
  • Acceptance of sustainable design principles including iterative design processes (e.g. charrette)
  • Must thrive on working in very close collaboration with all team members, since we believe truly effective design is a rigorous, team-based process
  • Proficient in architectural desktop, REVIT  or other equivalent design software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and database programs

Assets:

  • LEEDs or similar certification
  • Formal carpentry training and on the job construction experience
  • Energy modelling
