Where is Zirnhelt Timber Frames Located?

The shop is located on the family ranch in Beaver Valley BC (near Williams Lake where owners and brothers Sam and Damon were raised. The location is central for delivering throughout Western Canada. “We understand rural lifestyles and help many of our clients make the transition to rural retirement.”

How long have you been in business?

16 years ago Damon and Sam started with a portable sawmill to pay for their university degrees. Zirnhelt Timber Frames was created to give practical expression to their academic interests; primarily sustainable forest management and rural economic development. “Our team has over 80 years combined experience.”

What species of timber to you use?

Douglas firs is used for the frames and pine or spruce is used for the square log or laminated panel walls. “We are fortunate to be surrounded by some of the highest quality timber in the world managed in small family woodlot operations and community forests. We are committed to creating the best possible value from the local timber, providing local jobs and supporting sustainable forest management practices.”

How does the design process work?

Sustainable building starts with design. Zirnhelt Timber Frames offers complete design services or will work closely with your architect. Clients often start from existing plans and work with ZTF to modify those plans into a design that is unique and perfect for them. Some plans require very little change, however, ‘standard plans’ are rarely a perfect fit without modification.“Sustainable design requires careful consideration of your unique lifestyle, budget, environment, and building site combined with expertise in environmentally-responsible building practices”.

What wall construction systems can we choose?

Options include our unique solid square-log panels from Mountain Pine Beetle damaged timber, laminated wood and wool, square-log dove-tail, 2.6 framing, structural insulated panels (SIPs) and custom outfill wood framing. “We offer the most diverse wall construction options in the industry which allows us to make the best use of local building material and achieve just the right look, feel and function for each client”.

Which components of a building does Zirnhelt Timber Frames provide?

ZTF can provide and install just the timber frame or complete home construction including custom kitchens, timber staircases, railings, doors, and windows. “For local buildings, we do everything from concrete to cabinets”.

How much does a Zirnhelt timber frame cost?

Many of our frames cost $30-$50 per square foot. On the higher end of this range, packages usually include the wall system (e.g. solid wood walls). Prices vary with complexity and size. With classic shapes, simple roof lines and efficient use of space, we provide exceptional value and affordability. “Our design process helps you build to suit your budget”.
